MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF CORPS 1 JUNE 2020
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Corps,
On the 1st of June in 1973, the road transport, amphibious transport, air dispatch and postal functions of the RAASC were amalgamated with the water transport, terminal and movement functions of the RAE (Tn) to form the RACT. Since that time, the RACT has been an active participant within the ADF operational experience.
In 2020, we recognise the 47th Anniversary of the formation of the RACT, in what has been a uniquely challenging year for the Australian Army and the Corps. The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed significant changes to the way we do business and conduct our daily lives. The cancellation of the Corps Conference and Corps Dinner are examples of changes which needed to be made. However, despite the disruption, I have been heartened to see and hear that members of the RACT have continued to contribute to Army's capabilities both domestically and overseas. The Corps continues to play a pivotal role in the ADF’s support framework and our management and conduct of the distribution process is a significant combat enabler.
The Corps has continued to undergo significant change and restructure. Introduction of new protected mobility fleets, the changing Army orbat and modernised training has required us to examine, validate and rapidly respond to Army's evolving needs and future plans. This is nothing new, and as we have in the past, I am confident that the RACT will be at the forefront of planning and adaptation in all areas that we influence. This is what we do best and has been one of our biggest strengths over the past 47 years.
I was very pleased to be able to take part in the RACT Lanyard Parade a few weeks ago and welcome our newest officers to the Corps. I have also seen and spoken with many of our soldiers, NCOs and Warrant Officers, and believe we are in good shape for the future. In concluding, I ask that you remember that we still have members of the RACT deployed, and that you spare a thought for them and their families at this time. As we move forward toward several other significant events in our history, notably the 50th Anniversary of the RACT, I remain confident that we will remain equal to the task.
I wish you all a happy 47th Corps Birthday. Par Oneri.
Regards,
Brigadier Jason Walk
